SciSpace.net uses the Elgg social networking tools, and thus plans for SciSpace.net are inevitably tied to developments within Elgg.
The basic Elgg installation can be augmented by the inclusion of plugins provided by independent developers. For example, the wiki included in SciSpace.net comes with the Folio plugin developed by Nathan Garrett.
In the near future we intend adding additional plugins. The complete set of Elgg plugins is listed here. We will happily add any functionality requested by users if there are no problems of conflicts (which are known to occur in some cases, e.g. there is a conflict between the Folio and Forum plugins).
Elgg itself is under constant development. The roadmap for Elgg is available here, and is worth checking to see what new features are being developed.
It should be noted that in managing SciSpace.net we have to be careful to ensure that we maintain the working integrity of SciSpace.net. As noted above, some plugins do not work together properly, and an update to Elgg may require plugins to be fixed because of changes to Elgg. On the other hand, some plugins being developed appear to require versions of Elgg that are currently still in development.
