School Seismology :: Blog :: Indonesia M7.3 event on 25th Feb

February 25, 2008

A large (7.3) offshore event in Indonesia. However quite deep (35km) and so it appears to have not caused a Tsunami event. Data arriving in the UK is quite weak and I used a 10 sec low pass filter at KEYW to see the S arrival (09:01) and then surface waves after about 09:40, these having taken over an hour to reach us from Indonesia.0802250840KEYW.sac

The data from Paulet School PAUL, looks slightly better than KEYW with an interesting peak at 08:45. However looking at predicted arrival times this can only be a local noise event in the school with the first data from the event being possibly a PP phase at 08:54 with a strong S arrival at 09:010802250840PAUL.sac
